Visual Arts and Literacy
Teachers can incorporate literacy into their visual arts period by facilitating descriptive writing and oral language. For example, using the three curriculum strands, teachers can foster literacy by asking kids to reflect on their feelings, explaining their choices when creating artwork, creating a story through a famous artists’ picture and putting themselves in the picture to create a story. Explanations and communication can be done orally and through written word.
