Read to Self in the Teddy Bear Kingdom
This centre only occurs as an option once a week, as reading to self is less important at this early stage. To make sure that the students are reading aloud and practicing their fluency and expression, students read to a stuffed animal. During read alouds, the teacher models how to read aloud using expression and what kinds of questions the children can ask their stuffed animal to make sure that they understand the story. During this centre, students read only from their individual book bins, which only include books that they are interested in and that they can read independently with about 95% accuracy.
