Science is a curriculum strand that can be easily integrated into any literacy program. Teachers can introduce topics of science to the classroom that students have already shown interest in, perhaps through one of the inquiry units. Literacy is developed through the addition of non-fiction text to the science unit. It is a subtle way to introduce new text genres to students, as well as new reading comprehension strategies.
