With the application of the Errorless Classroom Management (ECM) method, we are less likely to encounter problem behaviours and task avoidance behaviours.
- Most problem behaviour can be viewed as a child’s adaptation to a challenging environment
- Problem behaviour allows children to access things they need (e.g., attention) and avoid things they find unpleasant or stressful (e.g. demanding tasks).
Proactive management of the class involves:
- Re-arranging the classroom environment to support prosocial behaviours, collaboration and cooperation, which fosters student success.
- Reinforcing skills that allow students to manage their environment more effectively
- Focus on prevention of problem responses
- Focus on gradually building student tolerance to classroom conditions that lead to problem behaviours.
- Minimize punishments and reactive approaches
